What’s Your Favorite Biblical Word Picture?

I have so many, but I think this word picture in Isaiah may be my favorite. For the moment anyway…read every word, out loud if you can and visualize it in your mind’s eye:

“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is My word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Instead of the thornbush will grow the pine tree, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.

This will be for the LORD’s renown, for an everlasting sign, which will not be destroyed.”

Isaiah 55:10-13, NIV

Wow. What a picture. No wonder these words are right before it: “‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,’ declares the LORD. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.'”

Another word picture. He is great. He is tall. He knows all. He loves us and leads us, and I can’t help but give Him praise. Thank You, Father, for giving me a glimpse of You this morning. You alone are worthy of nothing but praise and honor and renown. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

1 How good and pleasant it is
when brothers live together in unity!

2 It is like precious oil poured on the head,
    running down on the beard,
    running down on Aaron’s beard,
down upon the collar of his robes.
    Psalm 133:1-2

Not as inspirational as Lauralee’s and Joanne’s, but I like this description of the garden of the kings palace.

There were white and blue linen curtains fastened with cords of fine linen and purple on silver rods and marble pillars; and the couches were of gold and silver on a mosaic pavement of alabaster, turquoise, and white and black marble. Esther 1:6 NKJV
